History

The story of the highly creative person is one that found me. Although I spent the first part of my life in the performing arts, when I changed careers, I was not thinking about creativity at all. However, as I started to work as a psychotherapist, I began to see a pattern:

Many people coming into counseling were actually struggling with two sets of problems – those of daily life and those that stemmed from having unidentified or underutilized creative abilities. These individuals were not necessarily artists or musicians. In fact, most of them worked in “regular” jobs and did not consider themselves to be creative at all.

I realized that erroneous stereotypes about creativity, including the notion that creativity must be linked to an artistic activity, were causing many highly creative people to remain unidentified. Those who were highly creative and did not know it, or those who did not know how to manage their creativity, were often at risk for multiple problems and difficulties that often worsened over time. These difficulties were, most often, caused by the individual’s inability to recognize, understand and cope with the existence of their creative abilities in the first place.

After repeatedly witnessing this pattern, I was compelled to create a private psychotherapy practice dedicated to the special needs and abilities of highly creative people. The Center for Creative Intelligence is designed to be an extension of this work with the following mission and goals.

Mission Statement

Provide highly creative individuals with the knowledge, skill and inspiration needed to cope with the multiple challenges and difficulties which often accompany the experience of being highly creative.

Major Goals:

  • Help unidentified highly creative individuals recognize themselves and their abilities, so they are spared the unnecessary confusion and hardship that many highly creative people experience in trying to find their way in life.

  • Assist highly creative individuals to recognize, understand and cope with the existence of their abilities so they will be able to realize their authentic vocations and reach places of leadership in their chosen careers.

  • Correct mistaken myths and stereotypes about creativity that often preclude an accurate understanding of highly creative individuals and their aptitudes.
